Gov. Otti Declares Abia Has Discovered Future Super Falcons, Olympic Stars at Secondary Schools Unity Games

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has declared that the future of Nigerian sports, including potential Super Falcons players and Olympic champions, has been discovered through the 2nd edition of the Abia State Governor’s Secondary Schools Unity Games.

The Governor made this declaration on Friday at the closing ceremony of the statewide inter-school sporting competition held at the Umuahia Township Stadium, where Ikwuano Local Government Area (LGA) emerged as overall winners with an impressive 131 medals.

Represented by his Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, the Governor emphasized that the competition, which featured 1,000 student-athletes across 28 sporting events, had proven to be a platform for identifying and nurturing grassroots talent.

“We’ve discovered the future Super Falcons and other sporting legends right here in Abia. These young athletes are proof that the future of sports in Nigeria is bright,” the Governor stated.

Governor Otti also announced plans to host three Abia-born players from the victorious Super Falcons squad on Monday, using the opportunity to encourage the newly discovered talents to draw inspiration from Nigeria’s female football champions.

He expressed satisfaction at the progress made in upgrading sports infrastructure since taking office, revealing that the once-dilapidated facilities are now being revamped.

“When we assumed office, our sporting facilities were in terrible shape. Today, the story is changing,” Otti noted.

The Abia State Director of Sports, George Obioma, commended the Governor for his unwavering support in both funding the Unity Games and approving the ongoing upgrading of Umuahia Township Stadium, which will soon feature tartan tracks and modern sports infrastructure.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development reiterated that the event was far more than a jamboree—it was a purpose-driven scouting ground for athletes who will one day represent Abia State and Nigeria on the world stage.

Among the stand-out performers was Miss Chijioke Chiagozie Marilyn, a gold medalist in Kung Fu, who shared her ambition of representing Nigeria in future Olympic Games.

“I’m thankful to Governor Otti for giving me the chance to showcase my talent. I want to wear Nigeria’s colors at the Olympics,” she told DAILY POST.
