EFCC Arrests 35 Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Aba, Abia State

In a coordinated sting operation on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, the Uyo Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested 35 individuals suspected of involvement in internet fraud. The operation, conducted in Aba, Abia State, saw the apprehension of 34 males and one female, all believed to be part of a larger network of cybercriminals.
The arrested suspects include: Emmanuel James, Ukaomo Jefferson, Felix Onyema, Daniel Chimaobi, Chukwuemeka John, Prince Ogbonna, Charles Daniel, Emmanuel Igboanugo, Eric Uke, Emmanuel Ogechukwu, Chibuike Prosper, Obi Victor, Emmanuel Onwuchekwa, Price Kingsley, Uchechi Awo, Chinonso Callistus, Edward Wisdom, Ejiogu Justice, Precious Edward, Moses Meshael, Kalu Victor, Ujoatu Goodluck, Ikeh Sochima, Obinna Prosper, Onyekachi Christian, Christopher Chris, Precious Smart, Clinton Ifeanyi, Daniel Obuzoma, Chukwuebuka Promise, Cjay Ekeamaka, Ejiogu Price, David Favour, Okechukwu Emmanuel, and Nwigwe Joy.
The suspects were found in possession of an array of sophisticated gadgets, which authorities believe were used in their fraudulent activities. Items recovered from the suspects include 48 high-end mobile phones, nine laptops, three exotic vehicles, a wristwatch, and an international passport. These items are currently being examined by the EFCC as part of the ongoing investigation.
The arrests are part of the EFCC's continued crackdown on internet fraud, often referred to as "Yahoo Yahoo" in local parlance, which has become a major concern in Nigeria. The EFCC has repeatedly emphasized its commitment to tackling cybercrimes that affect both the Nigerian economy and the reputation of the country internationally.
According to the EFCC, the suspects will soon be charged in court, and the commission has vowed to continue its vigilance in combating internet fraud in all its forms. The agency also warned that anyone involved in such illegal activities would face severe legal consequences.
This operation highlights the EFCC's resolve to maintain its efforts in ensuring that those engaged in financial crimes are brought to justice, serving as a deterrent to others who may attempt similar crimes in the future.
