Court Sends Fake Lawyer Handling Murder Case to Prison in Umuahia, Abia state.

In a startling development at the Magistrate Court 4 in Umuahia, Abia State, a suspected impostor has been remanded in custody for allegedly posing as a lawyer. Identified as Kenneth Nwuke, the individual was apprehended following a tip-off while attempting to represent a client in a high-profile murder case at the Zone 9 Police Headquarters in Umuahia.

According to reports, Nwuke purportedly claimed to have been authorized by the deceased's father through a power of attorney to handle legal proceedings on behalf of the family. The suspect allegedly presented documents bearing the name of a well-known law firm in Aba, which raised suspicions among members of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) present at the police zonal command.

Members of the NBA, led by Charles Onuchukwu Esq., promptly alerted the authorities, leading to Nwuke's arrest by the police. The subsequent investigation revealed that Nwuke lacked the credentials and qualifications to practice law, despite his efforts to negotiate and engage in legal representation.

During the arraignment at Magistrate Court 4 with the charge number U/449C/2024, titled Commissioner of Police vs. Kenneth Nwuke, the presiding Magistrate, Jane Mba, granted the police's application for a remand order. The case has been adjourned to August 30, 2024, to monitor compliance with legal procedures.

Speaking on behalf of the NBA Aba branch, Chairman Charles Onuchukwu Esq. commended the police for their swift action in apprehending the fake lawyer. He emphasized the association's commitment to upholding the integrity of legal practice and protecting the public from such fraudulent activities.

Kenneth Nwuke now faces legal consequences for impersonation and misrepresentation, awaiting further court proceedings while remanded at the Umuahia correctional centre. The case highlights the importance of vigilance within the legal profession and the severe penalties for those who attempt to deceive the judiciary system and exploit vulnerable individuals seeking legal assistance.
