ADC Abia Suspends State Chairman Don Norman Obinna Over Alleged Misconduct
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Abia State chapter has suspended its Chairman, Don Norman Obinna, over alleged misconduct, mismanagement, and authoritarian leadership. A disciplinary committee has been set up to investigate the allegations.

The Abia State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has suspended its State Chairman, Mr. Don Norman Obinna, following petitions accusing him of misconduct, authoritarian leadership, and disregard for party principles.
His suspension was announced on Friday during a harmonisation meeting of all factions of the ADC held at the Nobik International Event Centre in Aba. The meeting, moderated by the party’s National Welfare Secretary, Nkem Ukandu, focused on repositioning the ADC in Abia, settling internal disputes, and aligning party structures to strengthen its grassroots appeal.
One of the petitions that triggered the suspension was filed by Mr. C.C. John, the party’s Deputy Social/Welfare Secretary. He accused Mr. Don Norman of mismanaging party property, including the alleged sale of two party vehicles, and running the party with little or no consultation with other executives.
Addressing members of the press after the meeting, the interim State Chairman, Mazi Okoroafor Kanu, said the party had tolerated Norman’s leadership style for too long.
“I was formerly his deputy. He ran the party like his personal affair. He sold the two siennas belonging to the party. He made decisions without consulting either the committee or the executive. The party said enough is enough,” Kanu stated.
He further disclosed that a disciplinary committee, chaired by the Deputy Chairman of the party, has been set up to investigate the allegations. Don Norman is expected to appear before the committee to respond to the charges.
Present at the meeting were prominent party stakeholders including Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (representing Abia South), Etigwe Uwa (SAN), Uwaoma Olewengwa, Okey Ezeala, and Barrister Kalu Kalu Agu (Zonal Legal Adviser).
Ukandu, in his remarks, urged members to focus on building the party at the grassroots. “What we want is for everyone to join the party. Tell the people around you to become members of our great party. Today, ADC has the highest past and present elected members in Abia. Let us make it a party we can all be proud of,” he said.
As of the time of filing this report, Mr. Don Norman Obinna has not issued any public response to his suspension.
