Abia State Police Commence Enforcement of Third-Party Insurance, CP Warns Officers Against Misconduct

The Abia State Police Command has officially commenced the enforcement of Third-Party Motor Insurance for all vehicle owners in the state, following a directive from the Inspector General of Police (IGP). Commissioner of Police (CP) Danladi Isa, while addressing officers of the Safer Highway Unit and the State Traffic Division, issued a strong warning against any form of unprofessional conduct, including extortion and incivility towards motorists.

During the briefing, CP Isa stressed that officers must carry out their duties with integrity and professionalism. He reiterated that any police personnel caught engaging in misconduct would face severe disciplinary actions.

Following the address, the Commissioner of Police, alongside his management team and State Traffic Officers, embarked on the enforcement exercise, ensuring compliance with the Third-Party Insurance directive. Motorists were stopped at various checkpoints and requested to present valid proof of their Third-Party Insurance.

The Abia State Police Command has urged all vehicle owners to obtain valid Third-Party Insurance to avoid legal consequences. The police emphasized that compliance with this requirement is not only a legal obligation but also a measure to enhance road safety and financial protection in case of accidents.

The enforcement of Third-Party Insurance is part of a nationwide initiative to curb lawlessness on the roads and ensure that all motorists have the necessary insurance coverage. The police assured the public that officers would carry out this operation with the utmost professionalism and respect for human rights.

While some motorists expressed concerns over possible harassment by law enforcement, others welcomed the move, stating that it would bring more order to the roads and protect accident victims.

The Abia State Police Command has encouraged the public to report any cases of misconduct by officers through official complaint channels. They reiterated that their goal is to enforce the law fairly and transparently.
