Abia State Government Cancels April Environmental Sanitation Exercise to Support UTME Candidates

The Abia State Government has announced the cancellation of its monthly environmental sanitation exercise originally scheduled for Saturday, April 26, 2025. The decision was taken to allow candidates participating in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to access their examination centers without restriction.

In a public notice issued on Wednesday, the State Government emphasized that the move reflects its commitment to supporting the educational aspirations of young Abians and ensuring a smooth, unhindered examination process for all UTME candidates.

"While the formal sanitation exercise will not hold this month, the Government urges residents across all communities in Abia to take personal responsibility in keeping their homes, surroundings, gutters, and drainage systems clean," the statement read.

The Government highlighted that although the state-wide activity has been temporarily suspended, maintaining a clean and hygienic environment is still a top priority. Citizens were reminded that environmental cleanliness is directly linked to public health and disease prevention.

"Keeping our environment clean is a collective responsibility. It promotes good health, prevents disease outbreaks, and sustains the quality of life we all desire,"the statement added.

Residents are therefore encouraged to make voluntary efforts to clean their immediate surroundings, as the government continues to implement measures that balance the health, educational, and environmental goals of the state.

The State Government expressed appreciation for the continued understanding and cooperation of Abians and reaffirmed its commitment to policies that uplift the people and support developmental priorities.
