Abia State Government Begins Reconstruction of Ezeukwu Bridge in Bende LGA

The Abia State Government has officially commenced the reconstruction of the failed Ezeukwu Bridge in Bende Local Government Area, a critical infrastructure intervention aimed at improving road connectivity and socio-economic development in the region.
The project is being executed under the supervision of the Greater Ohafia Development Authority (GODA), as part of Governor Alex Otti's administration's broader commitment to revitalizing rural infrastructure and delivering impactful projects across the state.
According to Engr. Obinna Odum, the Director General of GODA, the project covers the rehabilitation of an 80 to 100-meter stretch of access road leading to the bridge, as well as the reconstruction of the Ezeukwu Bridge itself. The bridge design includes shore protection works and continuous reinforced side wings on both flanks to ensure structural durability, enhance safety, and protect the surrounding environment.
"The administration of Dr. Alex Otti is dedicated to delivering infrastructural projects that align with global best practices,"Engr. Odum stated.
Residents and stakeholders in the Ezeukwu community have welcomed the project with enthusiasm and gratitude, describing the intervention as both timely and strategic. For years, the bridge's collapse had disrupted transportation, isolated communities, and hindered commercial activities. The reconstruction is seen as a significant step toward restoring normalcy and promoting sustainable economic growth in the area.
The Ezeukwu Bridge serves as a vital link connecting various communities within Bende LGA and beyond. Its reconstruction is expected to:
Improve transportation efficiency
Facilitate easier movement of goods and people
Stimulate local commerce and trade
Reduce environmental risks caused by the failed structure
