Abia North: Cleric Says Church’s Support for Senator Orji Uzor Kalu Is Based on Performance, Not Politics
Bishop Silas Eke says the Church’s support for Senator Orji Uzor Kalu is based on performance and service, not politics, highlighting his contributions to education, infrastructure, and youth empowerment in Abia North.

Bishop Silas Eke of Kingly People’s Assembly has explained that the Church’s support for Senator Orji Uzor Kalu is driven by a commitment to good governance and development, not partisan politics.
Speaking during a Sunday service in Umuahia, the cleric said several prominent religious leaders from Catholic, Presbyterian, Methodist, Baptist, and Assemblies of God churches back Senator Kalu because of his proven record in leadership and performance.
He emphasized that clerics have a duty to speak truth to power and cannot stay silent while the Abia North zone risks being represented by “unknown figures without the capacity to attract meaningful development.”
“Many of us have never met him before. Personally, I don’t have any relationship with him. But as clerics, we are called to speak truth to power. Senator Orji Uzor Kalu remains the best from Abia State, both as a governor and now as a senator. The Church must always be the conscience that tells the truth at all times,” Bishop Eke stated.
According to him, the Church’s open endorsement is not a political alignment but an acknowledgment of Senator Kalu’s track record in education, agriculture, youth empowerment, and infrastructure.
As governor of Abia State between 1999 and 2007, Orji Uzor Kalu introduced free education, rehabilitated major roads, upgraded Abia State University, and established the Abia State Teaching Hospital in Aba. His administration also strengthened small and medium enterprises, stabilized the education sector, and improved the welfare of civil servants and judicial officers.
Since his election as senator representing Abia North in 2019, Kalu has initiated and completed numerous constituency projects. These include rural road construction, school renovations, solar streetlight installations, and borehole projects across the five local government areas. He has also empowered thousands of youths and women with training and startup equipment, earning him recognition among the top-performing senators in Nigeria for constituency development.
“If others refuse to speak out, we will,” Bishop Eke declared. “When a leader delivers, the Church must say so. We appreciate what Senator Kalu has done, and we pray for more leaders with his commitment to service.”
The cleric urged Christians to continue praying for sincere leaders, noting that the Church remains the moral conscience of society and must always stand for truth and fairness.
