Abia Assembly Speaker Distributes ₦5,000 Fuel to Keke, Okada Riders in Aba

In a heartwarming show of solidarity with the grassroots, the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ihuoma Emeruwa, has distributed ₦5,000 worth of fuel to each commercial tricycle (Keke) and motorcycle (Okada) rider operating in Aba. This initiative, which took place on Thursday, formed part of the activities marking his second anniversary as the lawmaker representing Aba Central State Constituency.

The event, held at a major distribution point in the city, witnessed a massive turnout of beneficiaries who received free fuel vouchers, translating into direct financial relief for hundreds of commercial riders navigating through Nigeria’s current fuel and economic crisis.

While addressing the crowd, Rt. Hon. Emeruwa emphasized that the initiative was not just a symbolic gesture but a practical effort to alleviate the burden of high fuel prices on the informal transport sector — a sector that supports countless families in Aba and beyond.

“This is my own little way of appreciating your hard work and contributions to the economy of Aba. I understand the pressure you’re under, especially with the cost of living, and I am committed to ensuring that governance touches the everyday person,” he said.

The Speaker reiterated his focus on responsive representation and grassroots development, vowing to continue policies and initiatives that prioritize the well-being of his constituents.

Beneficiaries, overwhelmed with joy, praised the Speaker’s leadership and approachability. Some described the fuel distribution as “timely relief,” especially given the sharp increase in operating costs for transporters.

“This is the first time we’re seeing this kind of direct support. Rt. Hon. Emeruwa is truly a man of the people. He listens, and he acts.”

The distribution exercise has been widely applauded across political and social circles, with many calling on other political leaders to emulate the Speaker’s people-focused approach.
