2025 Budget: Group Canvasses Allocation Of More Funds To Education Sector

The Abia State chapter of the National Association of Seadogs (Pyrates Confraternity) has called on the Federal Government to prioritize education by allocating more funds to the sector in its 2025 budget. This appeal was made by the Umuahia Chapter President, Mr. Eze Nwosu, during a visit to Afara Technical School, Umuahia, on Tuesday.
The visit, organized to mark the United Nations Human Rights Day, featured the presentation of books and other educational materials to the school’s pupils. Mr. Nwosu emphasized that investment in education is crucial to Nigeria’s economic development and pledged the association’s readiness to collaborate with the ministries of education at both federal and state levels to achieve universal education.
“Education is the backbone of economic progress,” Mr. Nwosu stated. He also lauded the school authorities for maintaining high standards in academics, discipline, and aesthetics.
The event included a lecture titled “Together for Justice: Teacher/Student Discussion on Human Rights” delivered by Dr. Charles Okwudiri, a lecturer from the Faculty of Law, Abia State University. Dr. Okwudiri highlighted the critical role of education in national development and provided insights into the legal framework of human rights.
An interactive session followed, where NAS members engaged teachers and students in discussions on human rights awareness and the importance of education in shaping young minds.
As part of the day’s highlights, the association awarded a cash prize of N20,000 to the most neatly dressed student of the college, a gesture by NAS Vice Chairman, Dr. Ekene Okpara.
In her response, the school’s principal, Mrs. Amarachi Ogbonna, expressed gratitude to the association for selecting Afara Technical School for the outreach. She commended their commitment to promoting education and encouraged them to continue their impactful initiatives.
The event coincided with the United Nations Human Rights Day, observed annually on December 10th. Mr. Nwosu praised the UN for dedicating a day to human rights, noting that investing in the education of young people is a vital way to foster justice and development.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to supporting education initiatives and called on the government to intensify efforts in ensuring accessible and quality education for all Nigerians.
