Gov. Otti Receives Dr. Gershon Amuta, Nwankpa, and Other Political Heavyweights into Labour Party

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has officially welcomed the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Isialangwa South, Dr. Gershon Amuta, alongside another PDP stalwart, Chief Chinagorom Nwankpa, and hundreds of their supporters into the Labour Party.

The political reception, which took place on Tuesday, September 30, at Isieketa in Isialangwa South, was described by Governor Otti as a homecoming rather than a defection.

“This is not defection, it is reception of our brothers, who some of them had been with us even before now, and we are glad to officially welcome them into the party,” Governor Otti said.

He emphasized that in the Labour Party, equality is paramount. According to him, whether a person joined 20 years ago or just joined today, everyone holds equal standing. He instructed mayors across Abia to ensure proper integration of new members, stressing that discrimination would not be tolerated.

“I don’t want to hear that anybody is discriminated against. I don’t want to hear that somebody was not well received,” he added.

Governor Otti also assured the people of his administration’s commitment to development. He announced that construction would soon begin at the Okpualangwa General Hospital, which has already been awarded to a reputable contractor. He stated that within six to nine months, a state-of-the-art hospital would be delivered to the community.

“We will continue to work until the last day. So, if you have a few roads that are not good, don’t worry. We are coming there,” the Governor assured.

Prominent politicians, including Senator Darlington Nwokocha, Hon. Ginger Onwusigwe, and Hon. Dennis Chinwendu Rowland, applauded the Governor’s achievements and expressed confidence that with the calibre of leaders now joining the Labour Party, Governor Otti’s reelection in 2027 is already guaranteed.

Other government officials, such as the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Uzor Nwachukwu, and the Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, Engr. Ikechukwu Monday, also expressed joy at the development. The Mayor of Isialangwa South, Hon. Nnadozie Nwogwugwu, and former Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Dannie Ubani, echoed that the influx of heavyweights into the party has made 2027 a walkover for the Governor.

Speaking on behalf of the new entrants, Chief Chinagorom Nwankpa, Hon. Barr. Remijus Nji, Edwin Ihejirika, Sir Patrick Njoku, and Lady Gloria Agomuo declared their support for Governor Otti. They noted that they were attracted to the Labour Party by his performance in office and pledged unwavering loyalty to his 2027 reelection bid.

The event was graced by top dignitaries, including former Deputy Governor Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, Chief of Staff Pastor Caleb Ajagba, former SSG Dr. Emeh Okoro, and HRM Eze Nelson Nmeregwa.
