Ohafia Patriots, 265 Villages Back APC’s Ileanyi Ogbonna to Unseat Labour Party’s Ibe Osonwa in 2027

A socio-political group, the League of Ohafia Patriots, along with leaders from 265 villages in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, has resolved to unseat the Labour Party (LP) lawmaker representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa, in the 2027 elections.

The group, in a communique issued after a stakeholders’ meeting held at Chafia over the weekend and made available to journalists in Umuahia on Monday, called on Hon. Ileanyi Ogbonna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to step forward and contest for the House of Representatives seat.

The communique, signed by the group’s Chairman, Chief Ikechi Ukoha, and Secretary General, Mrs. Chisom Okwara, described Ogbonna as an eminent entrepreneur, philanthropist, and youthful politician who has consistently demonstrated a commitment to grassroots development.

According to the group, Ogbonna’s interventions in agriculture, healthcare, education, youth and women empowerment, and social welfare have earned him widespread respect and trust across both Ohafia and Arochukwu.

“Though Hon. Ogbonna is yet to officially declare his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat in 2027, his track record of service to humanity and consistent contributions to the development of Ohafia and Arochukwu are clear testimonies of his capability to offer quality representation,” the communique read.

Leaders from all 265 villages in Ohafia LGA reportedly pledged solidarity with Ogbonna, urging him to heed the call of his people and formally declare his candidacy.

The group noted that Ogbonna’s mission is to restore dignity, justice, and accountability to the constituency, citing his history of awarding scholarships, sponsoring skill acquisition programs with provision of startup materials, distributing fertilizers to farmers, supporting healthcare in rural communities, and delivering palliatives to vulnerable households, all without political bias.

“Hon. Ileanyi Ogbonna, being well-educated, outspoken, smart, and vastly experienced in public service, is capable and deserving of the mandate of the Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency in 2027,” the group said.

The League of Ohafia Patriots therefore pledged to rally full support for him and encouraged all electorates in both Arochukwu and Ohafia to cast their votes for him in the forthcoming elections.

Currently, the Arochukwu/Ohafia seat at the House of Representatives is held by Rt. Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa of the Labour Party, who hails from Ohafia LGA, while Ogbonna is from Arochukwu LGA.

The group insisted that the time had come to reclaim the constituency and secure credible representation that will ensure the delivery of dividends of democracy to the people.
