Gov. Otti Bans Illegal Street Trading, Unauthorized Motor Packs and Touts in Abia State.

In a bid to enhance governance and streamline operations in Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, the Executive Governor, has embarked on a series of transformative reforms. These initiatives aim to address longstanding issues and ensure efficient service delivery across the state.

A pivotal development in these reforms is the harmonization of all approved taxes and levies previously managed by various task forces under different Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). This move seeks to eliminate redundancy and confusion in tax administration, thereby promoting a more business-friendly environment.

Key highlights of the harmonization include the abolition of illegal street trading, unauthorized motor parks, roadside mechanic workshops, and the unauthorized conversion of streets and public roads for religious, social, or commercial purposes. Furthermore, the operation of touts who unlawfully issue tickets to motorists on public roads and streets has been firmly prohibited.

To enforce these new regulations, the Abia State Harmonized Taskforce, under the leadership of Prince Uzor Nwachukwu, Chairman of the Taskforce, is collaborating closely with all security agencies. Their mandate includes the arrest and prosecution of offenders in designated mobile courts, ensuring strict compliance with the new directives.
