MOUAU Approves 2025/2026 Academic Session as Amnesty Year for Former Students

The Senate of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), has approved the 2025/2026 academic session as an amnesty year for former students who could not graduate between the 2005 and 2018 academic sessions. The approval excludes those whose withdrawal was linked to examination malpractice or cult-related activities.

This decision was announced in a statement released by Dr. M. A. Agbai, Director of Senate Affairs, following the 253rd Regular Senate Meeting held on Thursday, October 2, 2025, and made available to the media on Monday.

According to the statement, the approval followed a compassionate appeal presented to the Senate, aimed at granting affected students another opportunity to complete their studies and obtain their degrees.

Dr. Agbai explained that during deliberations, members of the Senate expressed concern over the incomplete academic records and outstanding courses of many affected students. Despite these challenges, the Senate agreed that granting the amnesty would help resolve long-standing academic issues and restore hope to former students who had faced academic setbacks for non-disciplinary reasons.

The amnesty covers students who discontinued their studies for reasons unrelated to misconduct, allowing them to regularize their academic standing, complete missing courses, and meet graduation requirements within the 2025/2026 session.

This decision is expected to benefit hundreds of former students across various departments, many of whom have long awaited an opportunity to return and finalize their academic journey.

The university urged eligible students to take advantage of the amnesty window by contacting their respective departments for guidance on registration and course completion procedures.
